Craft room renovation

Feb 5, 2013 | A day in my life, Blog, FFF News, Uncategorized

The Funky Friends Factory SHOP is no longer!

UnfortunatelyI had to give the shop up as it just wasn’t busy enough at the Old Petrie Town to make it worth paying shop rent. It was a sad decision to make as I loved the peaceful space and it was a great place to hang out. renovation masks

And NOW look what a mess I’m in!

ALL of my sewing patterns, fabric, materials, and soft toys are piled high, right up to the ceiling in MOST of the rooms in my house!

My darling hubby has been building a bigger shed for himself, it’s taken him 7 years BUT now that it’s finally finished we are renovating the smaller shed for my craft room!!! That’s the GOOD NEWS – the BAD NEWS is that it’s full of

‘BOY’S STUFF’!

So first hubby had to clean up his act!!!!

Then we insulated the walls.

Funny, this felt a bit like a beginner’s sewing lesson!!!!

Then we lined the walls with gyprock and plastered and sanded the gaps. (YES I KNOW I should have worn my goggles but it was so hot they kept misting up!)

Then we added the cornices.

Then we collapsed with

Poor Tess! Just watching all this activity makes her sleepy! Well, I can’t wait to show you the finished craft room once the renovation’s done. I wonder if you have renovated or built your own sewing/craft room?

Do you have any design tips or sewing room layout tips you’d recommend?

I’d love to know!

So excited for your new space!!!

We’ve worked on finishing our basement over the past 7 years, since we built the house. I’ve always kept my sewing down there, and for the first 3 years, there was no heat! With each year, we’ve done a little more – I’ve spent way too much time boxing everything up and hauling it to storage space so a project could start. When that project was done, I’d move everything back down. I did that at least 3 times! We finally completed it in the spring and now I have my own room – with heat, carpet, painted walls and doors!

When people see our basement, they ask if it is our ‘man cave.’ I play along and say “Sure, but the “Leigh Ann Cave” is over this way,” directing them towards my new room! Heehee

Can’t wait to see more pictures!
