I got a lovely email from Katy from Janome-America, who told me that their creative educators used some of my Funky Friends toy patterns to showcase their unique decorative stitches for the Janome dealer’s conference this month in the city of Atlanta.
She was very excited to show me how they used the stitches so she sent me these photos to see. Take a look at how they used the Janome sewing machine’s decorative stitches to create lots of cool texture effects on the fabric to make the toys look amazing!

I love the details they added for the Slowpoke Sloth Sloth Pattern – can you see the texture detail on her tummy? Look at those fuzzy eyebrows!
And… for the Monty Manatee Sewing Pattern they have added some decorative stitching down the sides of the manatees and also made a baby manatee toy – how cute it that?
And look what they did with the Mickey Moose sewing pattern! I just love the cute expression on the face of their Mickey Moose and look at the detailed stitches they’ve used to give him a quilted look!
They have used the decorative stitches to add some fun texture detail to the mane of the Larry Lion Pattern. If you look closely you can see how they edged around his ‘paws’ too!
Next up is the Patty Cow sewing pattern. Look at the stitching around her hooves!!!
And WOW – they have used the Randy Rhino sewing pattern to show off this clever “crinkly effect” created with the decorative stitches.
And LAST but not LEAST…
They have used the Wodger Wombat sewing pattern to show off these swirly decorative stitches and added a cute collar!

Definitely loving the stitches on the lion’s mane. Adds pizzazz!
Now I want to upgrade my Janome. Maybe make my memory bears a little bit more memorable.
Definitely the lion , would like to make this fir my granddaughter x
ozzzie the octopus with look cute with decorative stitching on his “limbs”
Of the examples shown above, I am absolutely floored with the Randy Rhino stitching! I absolutely love that one and would love to make one similar. There are so many clever ideas out here, I can only hope I can be as creative with my own creations. I think the Easter Bunny would be fun to do a collection of creative stitches on.
Definitely love the lion pattern with the details on his mane
Patch the pussy cat would be adorable with decorative stitches!
I reckon Dilby Duck and Oscar the Otter would both look really cute with decorative stitching.
I think that Dilby Duck would look good in this!
Testing comments
I think Sparkles Seahorse would be really cute with decorative stitches.
Amazing work! I am thinking a Reggie Reindeer with decorative Christmas stitching would be a must.
Wow, I LOVE the stitching on larry lions mane. Although I imagine that the peacock tail would look amazing too. Not to mention belinda butterflys wings. “Too many choices! I cant decide” but the decorative stitching is a brilliant idea, very creative.
I love what they above done with the lion and the rhino! But I think the camel would look extra special!
I can’t think of one of your patterns that can’t be enhanced with decorative stitches:). I think rascal raccoon would look great with texture in his tail made up of neat stitches
Choice is difficult to make… anyway I think that Rascal the racoon should give a nice result with some funny decorative stitches on it !
fifi fox 🙂
All of the Funky Friends shown are very cute–especially Randy Rhino. But, I think Charlie Cockatoo needs some nice feathery lines stitched on him to give him that edge over the other cockatoos.
Leo lion and I shared him on my FB page. He’s always been my favorite since you first created him.
Yeehar! We have a winner! Congrats goes to Bella Doench! 😃🎉 LUCKY YOU ~ I can’t wait to see how your Slowpoke Sloth turns out! 😁
