It’s been a long time since I designed Anu the Elephant, my first Fair Trade toy pattern for Blue Mango India. It was back in 2009, so we are all feeling…
it’s time for some new designs!
AND so guess who’s been invited to go and do the deed????
ME!!!
Yeeeeeeee-har!
What an honour/priviledge/treat this is, for me to go to India and meet Tamar and Bruce and ALL the lovely Bluemango ladies who have been making these toys!
* If you don’t know about Blue Mango this video gives you a glimpse of the organization and the wonderful work they are doing.)
NOW I have to admit – it is a little scary knowing I am going to have to come up with some lovely new designs for them in the space of the 3 weeks I will be there, but Tamar has said the ladies will help me sew up the proto types so please keep fingers crossed that the inspirations comes!!!! : )
I would LOVE to hear from you – I don’t think they want particularly cute and cuddly toys… I dunno – so please let me know what YOU think would make a brilliant Fair Trade Toy design….
all ideas welcome please!!!

Till next time,
Happy Sewing,
Pauline
Hi Pauline,
What about a variation on your single seam magic ball?
HiPauline,
The girls in india may like to make some funky fabric storage
boxs…they’re popular, here in the uk, for storing toys (or just about anything) on shelves or book cases. I’m sure you could come up with your very own funky friends factory designs.
Good luck
Michaela
Ok…you need a WOLF!!! heehee. And you could do some other varieties of dogs. I have a french mastiff and a king charles spaniel and those would be totally cute toys. The spaniel especially with their curly ears. Good luck and have a wonderful time.
Hi Pauline
I know you already have a cow pattern, but could you not put that forward – I suggest that because the cow is revered in Hinduism. Perhaps a tiger could also be a possibility (the national animal of India). Aside from that, I second the suggestion for an owl!!
Dear Pauline.Very glad to know that you are coming to India is it Chennai ,different types of animals from Australia like Kangaroo, etc would be fine and different for our Indian children.
