I have been having such fun designing the details of my dragon toy sewing pattern… and discovering all about the anotomy of a dragon as I do!
Who would have thought a dragon had so many
unusual features?
Do Dragons have EARS?
I actually had to stop and think about THAT!!!! I REALLY didn’t know if those big flappy things were EARS or just FRILLS?
Be honest… DID YOU? 🙂
I did some more reseach (Thanks Mr Google!!!) and found THE BEST-EVER diagram showing the anatomy of a dragon– Hooray!
This fabulous drawing is by the incredibly talented artist Eugene Arenhaus. This is ONLY a sneak peek of part of his original artwork BUT you can see the original drawing and ALL his artwork on his website – it’s awesome!
Well, let’s see,
For starters, dragons need lots of spikes… so I added some back spikes… BUT how to make them look dragon-ish, and not simply crocodile-ish?
I tried a few different shapes…
Mmmmm, I think that looks dragon-ish!
NEXT I had to figure out what the tip of the tail should look like. Should it just end in a sharp point?
Nah, I thought I’d try a tail with a TAIL SPIKE!!!!
Aaaah, that’s MUCH BETTER …
BUT then I had to figure out HOW TO ATTACH it! Ha!ha! : )
That looks OK! : )
Ooh, wings! What about dragon WINGS???
What FUN!!!! I loved making these dragon wings!!!
… and some CLAWS? Dragons need a claws! I think I’ll stick with 3 claws.
And now, how can I make some cute dragon eyes? They need LOTS of bright colour and cat’s eye pupils of course!
Nearly forgot about HORNS???? Do ALL dragons have horns? Well, again Mr Google had the answer and it turns out around 80% of dragons have horns!
Still, I think my dragon is too little to have horns so I’ve decided to leave them off my dragon toy pattern…
this cute little dragon is JUST a BABY!!!!! 🙂
OK, I’d better get on and finish the toy sewing pattern so you can sew your own baby dragon!
I hope you like my dragon so far???

Till next time,
Happy Sewing,
Pauline
