Jen asked if I could <strong>help her with some tips<\/strong> for sewing her softies&#8217; feet as her foot pads always end up with pinching or puckering on the seams, no matter what she does. So let me get straight to it ~&gt; and show you <strong>how to make PERFECT FEET for your next softie <\/strong>creation &#8211; nice and neat, without any pesky puckers or pleats, and of course, dainty and pretty to look at!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17962\" style=\"border: 1px solid #a8a5a9; padding: 4px;\" src=\"https:\/\/manage.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/How-to-sew-perfect-plushie-feet.500.jpg\" alt=\"How to sew perfect plushie feet\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>First, l&#8217;ll show you a &#8216;not-so-nice-looking foot&#8217;:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>For those of you who may be wondering what on earth I am talking about. OK, here is a wrinkly, pinching, puckered, foot&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I almost don&#8217;t want to show you!<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It&#8217;s not bad, BUT certainly not BEAUTIFUL!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1936\" style=\"border: 1px solid #a8a5a9; padding: 4px;\" src=\"https:\/\/manage.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/fabric-puckers.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"452\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Second, I&#8217;ll share some TIPS for beginners:<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote style=\"padding: 10px 10px; margin: 30px 0px; border: 3px dashed #09abab; color: #000000;\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #09abab;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Here are my BEST 4 TIPS for FOOTPADS<\/span>:<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">1. PINS<\/span>! \ud83d\udccd<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re going to need lots of PINS, at least 12 per foot (one for each hour position on a clock face).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">2. Go SLOW<\/span>!\u270b<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Turn down your machine speed. (You may even want to hand crank your sewing machine,\u00a0 if you find it difficult to sew slowly!)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">3. USE FLEECE FABRIC<\/span>!\ud83e\udde3<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the easiest fabric for foot pads for beginners. WHY? Because it stretches instead of forming puckers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">4. BASTE\/TACK<\/span>.\ud83e\udea1<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is a &#8220;last resort step&#8221; that I don&#8217;t use myself BUT you may want to give it a try. If your fabric is still slipping, even after careful pinning, you may want to consider hand tacking\/basting the pieces to keep them from shifting and slipping as you sew. (Don&#8217;t forget to remove the baste stitches after machine sewing the feet!)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Third, let&#8217;s banish those pesky puckers, <\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">once and for all!\ud83d\ude04<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote style=\"padding: 0px 10px; margin: 30px 10px; border: solid 2px #b41e8e; color: #000000; text-align: left;\">\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">STEP 1<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Pin the foot pads in place, starting with 4 pins, front back and on each side.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>(I like to think of these as North, East, South, and West!)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1940 aligncenter\" style=\"border: 1px solid #A8A5A9; padding: 4px;\" src=\"https:\/\/manage.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Pinning-foot-pad-for-sewing.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"452\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"padding: 0px 10px; margin: 30px 10px; border: solid 2px #b41e8e; color: #000000; text-align: left;\">\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">STEP 2<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Place another pin between the first 4 pins, so you should have 8 pins so far.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1941 aligncenter\" style=\"border: 1px solid #A8A5A9; padding: 4px;\" src=\"https:\/\/manage.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Pinning-toy-pieces-4-more.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"452\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"padding: 0px 10px; margin: 30px 10px; border: solid 2px #b41e8e; color: #000000; text-align: left;\">\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">STEP 3<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Turn the foot over and pin from the other side. Place a pin in between the pins on the first side. You should end up with a &#8216;pinwheel&#8217; which looks a LOT like the new pins which you buy at the haberdashery store!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>(This is also the position in which you will SEW the feet)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1939 aligncenter\" style=\"border: 1px solid #A8A5A9; padding: 4px;\" src=\"https:\/\/manage.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Pin-from-behind.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"452\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"padding: 0px 10px; margin: 30px 10px; border: solid 2px #b41e8e; color: #000000; text-align: left;\">\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">STEP 4<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Sew with the foot pad flat,\u00a0<strong>facing down<\/strong>, and all the pins<strong> sticking outwards<\/strong>. (Makes me think of an octopus!) I move my sewing machine needle to the\u00a0<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">very LEFT position<\/span><\/strong> and sew with the edge of the fabric running along the\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>inside of the right-hand prong of the machine foot<\/strong> <\/span>so that I get a \u00bcinch\/5mm seam. (&#8216;scuze all the technical terms!)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* Pull the pins out just before you are about to go over them. Pins can do a lot of damage to your machine or your eyes if they snap!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1942 aligncenter\" style=\"border: 1px solid #A8A5A9; padding: 4px;\" src=\"https:\/\/manage.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/sewing-needle-position.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"451\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"padding: 0px 10px; margin: 30px 10px; border: solid 2px #b41e8e; color: #000000; text-align: left;\">\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">STEP 5<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Clip or snip your seam, be extra careful<strong> NOT<\/strong> to snip your sewing line! (This allows the seam to flex a bit which helps smooth out the puckering.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1935 aligncenter\" style=\"border: 1px solid #A8A5A9; padding: 4px;\" src=\"https:\/\/manage.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/clip-snip-seams.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"452\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"padding: 0px 10px; margin: 30px 10px; border: solid 2px #b41e8e; color: #000000; text-align: left;\">\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">STEP 6<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>I always use my thumb to turn the feet &#8216;into the body&#8217; BEFORE I turn my softies inside out. (I do this with all smaller parts as it makes turning the toy much easier.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1943 aligncenter\" style=\"border: 1px solid #A8A5A9; padding: 4px;\" src=\"https:\/\/manage.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Turning-tool-thumb.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"452\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"padding: 0px 10px; margin: 30px 10px; border: solid 2px #b41e8e; color: #000000; text-align: left;\">\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">STEP 7<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Then I use a wooden chopstick as a turning tool to help me turn the seems properly.
