I want to get a little bit serious (just for a change!) because I want to let you in on the reason behind this big thing I\u2019m working on.<\/p>\n

You might not believe it
\nbut it\u2019s taken a long time for me
\nto become comfortable telling people that I design soft toys for a living!<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n


I trained as an optometrist and in comparison, sewing toys seemed a rather silly (even childish?) thing to do for a job! Often I think that there are so many awful things happening around the world, how can designing fluffy toys be a worthwhile thing to spend your whole life doing?<\/p>\n

BUT over the years, having people tell me how much my toy patterns have meant to them\u2026 has meant so much to me!<\/p>\n

The first time I remember being amazed by the effect my patterns could have on another person\u2019s life was when I received an email from a lady who told me she made my Ellie Elephant for her friend who\u2019s partner of 62 years had just passed away and she knew how much the elephant meant to her friend because she said its ears were wet from all her tears! Wow! I remember reading her email, with tears in *my* eyes, thinking how amazing it was to be able to make someone else feel a little better because of this \u2018weird thing\u2019 that I do!<\/p>\n

\nI look back at the creative journey I’ve been on with MY soft toy making and lately…<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n


I’ve been thinking about the creative journey each of YOU is on, with YOUR toy-making. Whether you’re a beginner (“What is a bobbin, anyway? Did it come with my machine?”) or have heaps of experience sewing (“I wonder if I can make this Plattie Platypus in sequins?”)\u00a0 I\u2019ve been thinking about what I can do to make sure you have even more FUN sewing soft toys.<\/p>\n

So I have challenged myself to come up with a way to make sure you’ll all be able to find the inspiration you need with Funky Friends\u2026<\/p>\n
