Tip 1. Transfer all pattern marks and letters to the fabric:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2705 This is my #1 tip for all makers, regardless of sewing experience!*<\/strong>
\n\u2705 You can use a pencil, fabric marker, or special sewing pen that erases with air, water, or heat.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

* I know this sounds so simple BUT don\u2019t let this fool YOU ~> this seems to help 99% of people who get stuck!\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Tip\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>2. Use the Step-by-Step Photo Tutorial:<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u2705 Most people said to look at the step-by-step photos AS you sew.
\n\u2705\u00a0 You can find the link to the photo tutorial in the pattern. Look for a box called SEE ME SEW (usually on the bottom of page 3).
\n\ud83d\ude4b\u200d\u2640\ufe0fTech help: If clicking the link does not work, try copying and pasting it into a browser. Some PDF viewers don’t activate the entire link when you click it.<\/p>\n

Tip <\/span><\/strong>3. Use an easy fabric first!<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u2705 <\/span>Fleece is a great starter fabric! Start with regular polar fleece – it’s a flat fleece (no extra fluff or furry bits), it doesn’t fray, it’s forgiving of mistakes and it’s nice and CUDDLY!<\/p>\n

\u2705 <\/span>The second easiest fabric is quilting cotton. It’s is easy to work with because it is not very bulky, so it’s easy to pin! Lots of people have also had experience sewing with this kind of fabric.<\/p>\n

\u2705 Don’t START with f<\/span>ake fur and fluffy fabrics! Thick fluffy fabrics can be hard to work with because they are bulky which makes them harder to pin and sew together. \ud83e\udd2f<\/p>\n

Tip 4: Start with a Beginner \/ Easy pattern:<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u2705 <\/span>There’s a section for EASY PATTERNS<\/strong> on the Funky Friends Factory website<\/strong><\/a><\/span> – just go to the home page and scroll down till you see it!
\n\u2705 These patterns are the easier because they don’t have a lot of <\/span>pattern pieces.<\/p>\n

Tip <\/span><\/strong>5. Test with non-sentimental fabric first!<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u2705 <\/span>If you’re making a keepsake, it’s a good idea to sew a test toy BEFORE you cut up precious clothes or sentimental fabric!
\n\u2705 Sew a<\/span> test toy with similar fabric so you know how the pattern will work\u00a0 in that fabric.
\n\u2705 <\/span>Charity shops are a good place to find similar clothing items to use in a test toy.<\/p>\n

Tip <\/span><\/strong>6. Use interfacing for clothing & very stretchy fabric (Stops toys bloating!\ud83d\ude35)<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u2705 Interfacing is used to stop fabrics stretching out of shape.
\n\u2705 Always use interfacing when sewing <\/span>a memory bear from clothing items.<\/span><\/p>\n

\ud83d\udc4d The best interfacing for memory bears<\/span>\u00a0is a medium weight, fusible (iron-on) woven interfacing<\/strong> like the US brands Pellon SF 101<\/strong> and Bosal 100% cotton fusible interfacing<\/strong> or the EU\/UK version (Vilene) Vlieseline G700<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Three quick guidelines for WHEN to use INTERFACING:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

\u2705 YES! <\/strong><\/span>T-shirts, onesies, and stretchy fabrics do<\/b> need interfacing.
\n\u2705 NO! <\/strong><\/span>You don’t<\/b> need interfacing for regular fleece and quilting cotton.
\n\u2705 YES! <\/strong><\/span>If you’re using multiple types of fabric in a project (like fleece cottons and T-shirt fabrics), do<\/b> interface all of the fabrics so they have the same amount of stretch.<\/p>\n

Tip\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>7. Don’t worry about being too slow or making mistakes.<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u2705 \u201cSlow down, you\u2019ll get there FASTER.\u201d<\/span><\/span>
\n\u2705 Don\u2019t skip steps, jump ahead or take shortcuts.
\n\u2705 U<\/span><\/span>se lots of pins to hold the pieces together so they don’t slip as you sew. (A quick check of the seams to make sure everything caught and sewed together correctly is much easier than finding it after you turn it right side out at the end.)
\n\u2705 Usually it’s just a simple mistake\u00a0 – and your unpicker can fix it!
\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The important thing is to have FUN sewing your toy! NO one’s perfect PLUS wonky toys have character!\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
