It is International Mother’s Day this Sunday, so we are celebrating our makers who sew  Funky Friends soft toys for mothers – themselves included! There are so may reasons we sew toys…

Our makers sew ‘perfect presents’ for their Mums!

Laura Sallis sewed this sweet Melody Memory Bear for her mother this mother’s day! Isn’t she sweet with the little roses detail she’d added.💗

Jenny South sewed Poppy PUPPY for her mother for Mother’s day. Her mom sells dogs coats! 🤎

Wanda Harbour Kirkman sewed 3 Butch Bulldogs for a customer out of a quilt top her mother had sewn but never quilted.

Gail Reiersen‘s mum has wanted a pet monkey since being a little girl – so she made her this very stylish version of Mitch the MONKEY for her birthday!

This cheery yellow Calico Signature Bear (Memory) Bear was sewn by Kate Whyte from her late daughter-in-law’s cardigans, as a surprise for her mother.💛

Our makers sew for their mothers-in-law

Helen Rourke sewed this awesome Diggles Dragon for her mother-in-law, who is affectionately known as the Dragon. Good news is that she loved it.😍

This awesome wedding keepsake version of Calico Signature Bear was sewn by Suzie Toblia for her mother-in-law. She used The her dress, veil, necklace and the roses from her shoes. Suzie said, “Not bad, considering its the first time I’ve used this pattern, and the dress and accessories are over 50 years old!”😁

Our makers sew for their daughters-in-law

Janice Wray sewed her daughter-in-law a couple of Dilby Ducks  to celebrate her first baby on the way. (The ducks are sitting on the blanket she brought her son home from the hospital in!) She says they were a blast to make!! 💛

Our makers sew in memory of their mothers

Michelle Newton Parker sewed made these purple Penny Penguins as memory keepsakes using her Mum’s jumpers – because she loved penguins. She made one each for herself, her Dad and her sister.  Her Mum is wearing one of the jumpers in the photo. Michelle also stuffed the beak and feet with lavender, because her Mum loved it as it helped her sleep. 💜

Nora Mauk sewed Patch Pussycat in memory of her mom. Her mom loved her cat, so she made these as Christmas gifts for her sisters and her daughter.

This Melody Memory Bear was sewn by Jennifer Oswald McCann out of the dress her mom wore to her wedding in 1989. She copied her Mom’s writing, from a card she had, and embroidered it on the memory bear’s feet. Jennifer says, “It’s not perfect, but I love it 😇 🧸”

Juliet Vincent sewed this special Melody Memory Bear for her Mom’s sister. She was could remember they both wore satin dresses to a party so she used this for her inspiration.

This sweet Dilby Duck toy was sewn by Rolie Blain for a friend whose mom passed away. The yellow fabric is her old housecoat and the contrast fabric is from one of her scarves. 💛

Nat Egan of Rothmore Forever Bears sews lovely baby keepsakes. She made this Ben BEGINNER Bear for a mum and dad, in memory of their little girl born sleeping.

Caroline Atkinson is a foster carer and sewed this beautiful keepsake version of Fifi Fox for the birth mum of the little baby she was caring for, it’s weighted to baby’s birth weight.

Laura Jayne Dixon ‘s mum  got her an upgrade for her birthday. After only 4 weeks on a ‘budget sewing machine’ she made this furry version of Calico Signature Bear. 🐻

Alice Ready‘s son asked for a bear to collect signatures on when he finished primary school. She sewed this Ben BEGINNER Bear from 2 school shirts and a PE T-shirt, from when he was 7!

Laura Breyley sewed this super cute Melody Memory Bear from her 6 year old’s baby clothes. She says it was emotional cutting into the clothes but she is so happy to have such a sweet keepsake instead of the clothes sitting in a drawer!
